Anando Brahma Movie Rating : 2.75 (Above Average)

Anando Brahma: Nice Concept and Excellent Comedy. Overall, decent in parts!

Anando Brahma is a comedy-horror movie directed by Mahi V Raghav and produced by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devi Reddy for 70mm Entertainments. Mahi V Raghav has earlier produced Village lo Vinayakudu and Kudhirithe Kappu Coffee and has directed Paathshala. Though his earlier directorial Paathshala received rave reviews from critics, it wasn’t able to succeed in box office. Anando Brahma is his second movie as a director. The producers earlier movie was Bhale Manchi Roju. Anando Brahma has cinematography by Anish Tharun Kumar and Music is rendered by K. Shravan Katikaneni has handled the editing work and Eva Motion Studios took care of the VFX work. Shabbani Rama Krishna and Monika Nigotre Shabbani headed the Art department.

Anando Brahma has Taapsee Pannu playing the lead role and is supported by Srinivas Reddy, Venella Kishore, Rajeev Kanakala, Thagubothu Ramesh, Shakalaka Shankar, Posani Krishna Murali and Tanikella Bharani. Anando Brahma is projected as a comedy horror movie where Ghosts get frightened by humans. Well, the concept looks interesting and so is the theatrical trailer. But we have seen in recent past that several movies of the same comedy horror genre hit the screens where few are super hits while rest of the movies failed. Will Anando Brahma hit the bulls eye has to be seen.

Story (Spoiler’s ahead):

Movie opens with Ramu (Rajeev Kanakala) staying in Malaysia and is watching news about the devastating floods in Utharakhand. He is worried about his Parent’s whereabouts as he is unable to reach them from four days. He calls Raja Ravindra who stays in Hyderabad to check if there is any clue of his parent’s whereabouts, but in vain. Ramu reaches India to know that his parents are no more. Completely devastated, he decides to sell his house where he used to stay with his parents and go back to Malaysia and settle there. The house that Ramu wants to sell is haunted by Ghosts and he finds no suitable buyer.

The Ghosts in the house are enacted by Taapsee, Raghu, a small girl and Vijay Chander. They initially think that people who come from outside are ghosts and later realize that they are the actual ghosts. Even the audience watching the movie will come to know the real ghosts only after 20 minutes. This twist is executed very neatly on screen and is one of the major highlight of Anando Brahma.

Coming back to the story, Ramu takes help of a real estate agent in selling his house. However Sidhu (Srinivas Reddy) hears about this deal and informs Ramu that he will help sell the house and in return will get 20 percent commission. Sidhu is ditched by his girlfriend and realizes that he has a hole in heart. In order to cure this, he need to spend 25 lakh which he doesn’t have. He doesn’t hesitate to stay in the haunted house and prove the prospected buyers that there is no ghost. Sidhu takes help of Tulasi ( Thagubothu Ramesh), Raju (Venella Kishore) and Babu (Shakalaka Shankar) to prove that there are no ghosts in the house. All these three have unique characters. Raju suffers from night vision and works as a watchman at ATM center. He falls in trap when money gets stolen from the ATM machine.  Tulasi is a alchoholic after 9 pm and need money for his son’s operation. Babu is a filmi buff and is barber by profession. Manikyam (Thanikella Bharani) dupes him in  the pretext of making him a hero. He sells his barber shop and becomes bankrupt.  How these three along with Sidhu takes over the ghosts is one of the major highlights that come in the second half.

Why is Ramu trying to sell his house? What actually happened to Ramu’s parents? What happened to the ghosts in the house? To know all these with many other twists and turns, one has to watch Anando Brahma

Artiste’s Performance:

This is Venella Kishore, Shakalaka Shankar, Thagubothu Ramesh and Srinivas Reddy show all the way. All these characters completely dominated the proceedings majorly in the second half. The way they take over the ghosts in the second half is extremely hilarious. Tapsee Panu is good and sticked to her role. Vijay Chander and Rajeev Kanakala were good in their characters. Raja Ravindra, Posani, Tarzan, Prabhas Seenu and Thanikella Bharani were seen in small roles and were decent.

Technical Team:

Mahi V Raghav excelled in telling a story with no unnecessary extra characters or songs. He kept it crisp and straight to the point. The first 20 minutes where handled to perfection. Similarly the way comedy episodes were executed in second half is praiseworthy. The scenes were he faltered was in taking extra time to introduce the characters of Venella Kishore, Srinivas Reddy, Shakalaka Shankar and Thagubothu Ramesh. They are not bad though but just the way it is presented on screen might have been handled better. Cinematography and Background score were good and went well with the flow of the movie. Editing is crisp and a run time of just 2 hours helped the movie in a big way.

  • Ghosts realizing that they are not people and are actually Ghosts (This comes in the first 20 minutes of the movie)
  • The comedy gang taking over the ghosts in the second half is extremely hilarious.
  • Sticking to the point with no unnecessary songs or unwanted commercial scenes.
  • Music and Back ground score
  • Cinematography
  • Srinivas Reddy, Venella Kishore, Thagubothu Ramesh and Shakalaka Shankar.
  • Tapsee, Raghu, Vijay Chander, Child ghost and Rajeev Kanakal were good.

  • Taking elaborate time in establishing characters of the comedy gang.
  • Last 20 minutes of first half (First half is only 55 minutes)
  • Few scenes in the second half seemed sluggish

Box Office Prospects:

Anando Brahma will be a average grosser and given its budget, it will be a winner at box office.

Final Punch: Excellent comedy with a novel plot. An easy one time watch!
