Jaya Janaki Nayaka Movie Rating : 2.75

Jaya Janaki Nayaka: Boyapati’s trademark emotional action entertainer!

Jaya Janaki Nayaka starring Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles is directed by Boyapati Srinu and produced by Miryala Ravinder Reddy under Dwaraka Creations. Jaya Janaki Nayaka also has Pragya Jaiswal in a short role and Catherine Teresa in a item song.

This is Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas third movie after Alludu Seenu and Speedunnodu. While Alludu Seenu was a decent grosser and won him Film Fare award for best debut South, Speedunoodu was a outright disaster. With Boyapati Srinu at the helm of affairs, there is decent buzz surrounding Jaya Janaki Nayaka.

Jaya Janaki Nayaka also has Jagapathi Babu, Sharat Kumar, Nandu, Tarun Arora, Vani Viswananth and Sithara among the rest of the cast. Boyapati Srinu is currently at the peak of his career delivering super hit movies back to back. He is one among the current leading directors of this generation. Was he able to continue his winning streak with Jaya Janaki Nayaka?

Story (Spoiler’s ahead):

Chakravarthy (Sharath Kumar) is an industrialist and father of two sons, Gagan (Bellamkonda Sinivas) and Prudhvi (Nandu). They behave more like friends and will never hesitate to flex their muscles against any injustice meted out to any of them.

Gagan comes across Sweety (Rakul Preet Singh) at her college when he rescues a girl from a rowdy gang. Gagan and Sweety instantly connect each other and Sweety becomes a favorite girl to Gagan’s family. She changes everyone to get rid of their drinking habits and also not allowing them to get into petty brawls.

Ashwadh Narayana Varma (Jagapathi Babu) is a business tycoon and has his reach up to the PMO’s office. He is a person who values prestige, dignity and respect than anything else. He kills his own daughter when he comes to know that she has an affair just before her marriage.

Varma bids for a highway project but a liquor don Arun Pawar (Tarun Arora) also eyes on that project. When the Officer of National Highways gives the contract to Ashwadh Narayana Varma, Arun Pawar seeks revenge on the officer and Varma.

In the mean while, Varma decides to take the relation a step further and asks the officer for a marriage alliance with his son and the officer’s daughter. The officer’s daughter turns out to be Sweety and the marriage takes place much against her wishes.

Arun Pawar and his gang eliminate Varma’s son at the marriage hall just after he ties the knot and Sweety becomes a widow. How Gagan takes on the baddies and saves Sweety and her family forms the rest of the story.

Artiste’s Performance:

Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas was at his best in the role of Gagan. He impressed immensely with his dance and action sequences. Like any other commercial Telugu hero, he single handedly takes over the baddies. His physique makes those action episodes believable to an extent. Though he may have to improve in his facial expressions and dialogue delivery, Boyapati has cleverly sketched his character in such a way that doesn’t require much expressions. This is where the talent of a Director shows up.

Rakul Preet Singh is extremely beautiful and has a very good character with all emotions. She excelled in her role. Jagapathi Babu is terrific as a business tycoon and who values respect than anything else. Sharath Kumar was fabulous in the father role and Nandu is pretty good as hero’s brother. Tarun Arora was apt in the role of liquor don and is the main antagonist. Pragya Jaiwal as Falguni is wasted in a miniscule role. Catherine Teresa was just ok in the item song. Sithara, Vani Viswanadh and JP played their roles well.

Technical Team:

Boyapati Srinu excelled again with his trademark action and emotions. He needs to be applauded for delivering one more emotional action packed roller coaster ride. Cinematography by Rishi Punjabi is top notch. Music and back ground score by Devi Sri Prasad is excellent. All of Boyapati Srinu’s movies excels in camera work and music and Jaya Janaki Nayaka is no exception. Production values are in par with any other Boyapati Srinu movie.

Positives:

  • Direction
  • First Half
  • Music and Back ground score
  • Cinematography
  • Action Episodes
  • Emotional connect
  • Lead pair chemistry
  • Hamsala Dheevi episode in second half

Negatives:

  • Pragya Jaiswal
  • Too many action episodes at the last 30 minutes seemed bit repetitive
  • Catherine Teresa item song

Box Office Prospects: With a pre-release business of 34 crores, Jaya Janaki Nayaka will fall short to reach that mark due to its in efficient release. This long weekend is very crucial and unfortunately it could not get maximum theatres. It has all the ingredients that is required for a commercial pot boiler, giving goosebumps at appropriate times.  There is no doubt that they made a decent movie but they should have taken care in getting proper release. Releasing amidst tough competition, it could not get enough theatres in the first week. Movie Bells estimate Jaya Janaki Nayaka to end in the range of 20 to 22 Cr at box office.

Final Punch: Go watch it if you are a fan of Boyapati Srinu style of movies.
